SAN NICHOLAS LINES, INC. was formerly named Asuncion Shipping Lines, Inc. which was initially operating as cooperative style prior to its incorporation by a group of fifteen (15) incorporators on February 1975, and had already four (4) existing units of wooden type cargo passenger vessel in operation.
On April 8, 1976, it was formally registered and approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), thus the birth of Asuncion Shipping Lines, Inc., under Certificate No. 66990. It was also registered and accredited with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to engage in domestic shipping business and is now SMS certified under Certificate # NSM-MLA 05-008.
Its primary purpose was to engage in the maritime trade specifically in the carriage of cargoes and passengers within the Philippine waters and is considered pioneer in the Manila, Mindoro, Romblon, Antique and Palawan maritime routes.
San Nicholas prides itself of being one of the few shipping Companies, which has democratized the system of ownership, with its shares of stock farmed out to more than 600 individuals, mainly ordinary people from the island of Banton, Romblon. Its claim to success and endurance in the domestic shipping business is attributed to its genuine concern for providing appropriate (i.e. safe, clean and dependable) transport service to all people – whether common folks in the provinces of visiting tourists alike.
